FRIENDLY SKIES 🌟

Indie-Electronic Pop like in the late 2000s & Early 2010s, with silvery vocals and a clean, spacious synth sound. Best listened to on a plane at night.

“Coming right off the release of Bedford Mall in July 2020, I knew I wanted to write Pop music. I was feeling inspired by Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen and Ocean Eyes by Owl City. I wanted to reinterpret that clean, space-inspired pop music sound from the early 2010s but put my own modern spin on it. I wanted to do my best to write catchy pop hooks and also create really luscious soundscapes in the instrumentals underneath.“

On August 20th, 2020, I first wrote the song “Friendly Skies,“ and instantly knew I wanted this to be the title and concept for the album. This is the first demo cover that I designed for the album, and most of the demos have this cover on it!

Throughout the fall of 2020, I wrote the vast majority of the songs for this album. I felt like I was in between two stages of life. Not in high school anymore, not yet in college. Just at home, on my computer, writing songs. I wrote about being lonely. About wanting new life experiences, but living in a world that was on hold.

This is a version of the cover when I was considering taking the album in a daytime, baroque pop direction. I decided not to…

I wrote the last song for the album (which was “Sunshine”) in March of 2021. By July, the album was functionally finished. But it wasn’t perfect. The mastering was harsh, the vocals were tracked off-tempo, and there were errors everywhere. While I had planned to release the album in September of 2021, I knew that perfection would have to wait.

Behind the scenes of the music video for Be Somebody.

That’s Shelby Mason! She’s helped me film the music videos for Be Somebody, Let it Ring, and Adrenaline!

In April of 2022, I finally finished the album. From August to December 2021, no work got done. I was dealing with Dorm Life. *shudders* I was afraid the album would never get done. But then, in February 2022, I had a breakthrough. My DAW had moved all my vocal tracks out of tempo by 40ms! I just snapped all the tracks forward a bit, and bam. The album was perfect. Over Spring Break, I posed for the final album cover in my basement. I achieved the “floating“ effect by balancing on a couple chairs and then cutting myself out afterward!
